CrowGirl Building Dive
I was thinking of taking a break from effects, but than I remembered that I can shove effects everywhere, so, I was working on this shot, that belongs to an old idea that I had, of a character that I call crowgirl. did some sketches of her here -
http://barakdrori.blogspot.co.il/2011/07/crow-girl.html
this is a test for a camera movement I was thinking of.
As there are a lot of effects going on, I thought I will show part of then in focus. there is hair, flag, splash, airborne water, sparks and glitter effects, but since the effects are not really the issue, they are supposed to support the overall shot they are often missed. here is a part of those effects.
The spear Glitter in the sun -
As CrowGirl hits the water -
By the way, I saw this awesome Behind The Scenes sequence of shot from MotorCity, I had to store it here...please notice that all the effects are classic animation. You Rock, Chris Prynoski. The Direction in non compromising with extreme and wide angles, and so is the animation.

Recalling the Acadamy
While in Bezalel, I did some shorts that I was never proud of, because they were poor in quality (of animation, directing, etc...). well, I WAS a student. but still, as I find myself venturing more and more into script writing, I find that I am very fond of these ones.
The first one, JESUS, was a short I did on my own, it was an interview with Jesus and Gabriel. Talking, in retrospective, about Jesus and his tragic life course up to his death, and the cruelty of his REAL father. Unfortunately, no translation, so only Hebrew speaking viewers can understand this one.
The other one, I can only take credit for the animation (part of it), this idea was, as I recall, to take a common saying and paraphrase it. the script and idea belong to Ben Genislaw and Yonni Aroussi.

Things on my shelf
I was just thinking....some stuff I did just stayed there on the editing floor. Is there a better place to put them than right here? :-)

Bugs Splash
After being away for a while, I had some time to work on some water effects.
As each splash acts like a finger print, I think I'm gonna make a few of these, I guess with Bugs, he's a fun character to play with.

A Fetus Dream
I was asked by animation Director Neta Holtzer, to create a short clip that will give a visual of what a fetus might dream about in the womb.
I thought about water and liquid, I thought about images of blossom, but wanted to remain in the environment in which the fetus grows in, a very limited one. I thought about the drug hallucinations in Enter The Void and about light and glow.
There is never enough time when it comes to classic animation and post, but I am pleased with the outcome.
This is to be a small part in a children's short film about dreams.

The 10 Suns
the short movie the 10 suns was a short I did while working at "TimeToKnow" Israel. wheb I was younger I used to do a lot of Chinese painting. while working at T2K, I had the change to create a short in that style. Oded Levi, my friend, directed it, and I created the art, animation and post. here it is. the 10 suns.

"SEE NOTHING" is off to HotDocs
Didn't have time to do some descent posts in the last month, as Claudia Levin, my gifted producer and I were preparing to present our film in front of potential investors, at HotDocs Forum, Canada. we were working hard to create a good, solid presentation.
An incredible team was assembled for this purpose and did an incredible job.
I will surly Put up some art later on when I will have time to catch a breather as we are doing last minute adjustments.
We are heading off to Canada in 3 days, Good luck!

Rocketeer
I was messing up with smoke when I was offered a job concerning satellites, from then on I was looking at launching satellites into space videos, and as a sucker of the "late 80's special effects - blue screen crap" that I am, I recalled Rocketeer (even though it must be said, that the movie was made in 1991).

Cabin
I like testing 2D layers in a 3D environments. if done right, the outcome is fantastic, as shown in the wonderful film Tekkon Kinkreet, classic animation can work wonderfully with 3D.
So I have fashioned this environment in 2D and spent some time to make a real Pan Right in after effects.
it was a good chance for some stylized smoke as well.

HellBoy
I decided to put in some effort this time, and color this animation. As I started to work on torch fire I recalled a scene from HellBoy, that he had this ball of fire if his horns are whole, so I thought it would be cool.
I am not that great with coloring but, I guess its good enough for this piece.
Here is the pencil test, without the cigar smoke, for whoever is interested in the making.
I personally always like the pencil tests better,
I guess that the raw feeling of the animation, is a bit more exciting.

Torch Fire
Two different styles for a small fire.
Here is a better version, concerning the way flames die.
As flames detach from the main body of fire, they should die fast.
A version with color treatment.

water tension
This post is all about how water works in terms of energy, molecules, and physics.
Starting with simple water ripples.
And then with a small droplet splash, in pencil test.
And a different version, with color treatment.
I have to give credit to my mentor, Adam Philips, who is an incredible effects animator.

Dust Treatment
Two possible treatments for dust. dispersed dust and dissipated dust.
Disperse is a more realistic method to create dust, when a dust cloud expands and break up until it is no longer visible using morphing, blur and fade.
As opposed to disperse, dissipate is a more classic, cartoonist method, which was used a lot in the traditional creation of dust, that is, when a dust cloud break and breaks quickly into nothing. it is a relatively exhausting way to get there, but usually, done right, looks better.

Blow out
Continuing with animation driven effects, trying to express a situation that is driving the whole scenario.
